Palatable Expander
Our NiTi palatable expander puts steady gentle outward pressure against the patient's upper molars. Over time the pressure reshapes the mandible, bringing the upper jaw into proportion with the lower.
The NiTi palatable expander is easier than stainless steel to place in the patient's mouth. The orthodontist simply chills it below its transformation temperature - the expander becomes pliable and exerts no pressure. While pliant the doctor cements it in place. Upon warming inside the mouth it regains its springiness -- and does its job.
In addition to being easier than stainless steel to place, the NiTi expander exerts a lower maximum force over a larger working range, which is more comfortable to the patient and necessitates fewer if any appliance replacements.
